Put a full-stop to all these Christian bashing — MCA Religious Harmony Bureau

May 8, 2014

MAY 8 — MCA Religious Harmony Bureau is totally shocked that the panellists at the seminar on the  ‘Allah’ word and Christology in the Malay Archipelago hosted at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) on May 6, 2014 had turned the forum into a Christian-bashing session where doubts were casted on the contents of the New Testament of the Bible while distrust and suspicion were fomented against the Christian community. Such a move will only polarise our society further between Muslims and non-Muslims.
It is not up to the presenters to determine whether the religious beliefs and practices of another faith are right or wrong. They should keep such opinions to themselves rather than blurting it all out in a public arena, thereby instigating the audience against Christians. Even worse, the panellists are in no position to belittle the religion of others.
Considering that UiTM is a public university funded by tax-payers, such a presentation will not augur well for the goodwill intended from the 1Malaysia concept mooted by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Universities are avenues and the gateway to acquire new knowledge and make academic advances. Unfortunately such Christian bashing discourses may cast a question mark on the quality of UiTM’s courses, authorities, lecturers, organisers and students.
We call on the university authorities to probe as to how it could allow such a seminar to be conducted and what form of concrete measures will be taken to repair any fallout from the seminar as well what types of national unity programmes will UiTM organise to foster goodwill and integration between UiTM students and students of other religions and creed.
Concerns that minority students and lecturers will be targeted
Considering that UiTM consists of students and as tertiary students are at an impressionable age, our Bureau is deeply concerned if the topics and contents presented will leave an indelible mark among the students who may overwhelmingly share a common faith against other students, lecturers and Malaysians who are not adherents of the same faith.
Moreover, as there is a small number of minority Christian Bumiputera students from Sabah and Sarawak as well as lecturers who are non-Muslim, we shudder at the scenario if they become victimised, belittled or ostracised for their faith by their peers who attended the seminar.

Islamic State ‘impossible’ in multiracial Malaysia, says MCA man

BY LESLIE LAU
EXECUTIVE EDITOR
APRIL 24, 2013
Lee said no foreseeable combination of political alliances would arrive at the necessary number to execute an Islamic state. — File picKUALA LUMPUR, April 24 ― Veteran MCA politician Datuk Lee Hwa Beng hosed down today his party’s claims that a vote for DAP could lead vicariously to the implementation of hudud law, pointing out that it was “impossible” for any winner of Election 2013 to set up an Islamic theocratic state.
Without naming any party, he noted that there were politicians who relied on fear-mongering tactics among the Chinese community by warning them that an Islamic state will result if the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition comes into power or, alternatively, if there is a coalition of Umno and PAS.
MCA, hit by widespread unpopularity among the Chinese electorate, has made the possibility of an Islamic state a central plank of its campaign in Election 2013.
The party has placed a number of newspaper advertisements suggesting that a vote for DAP is a vote for hudud, the Islamic penal law, especially after the PR party said it had considered using the logo of PAS in the general election following now-dispelled doubts about its ability to apply its own symbol.
Lee, the former Port Klang Authority (PKA) chairman who gained public acknowledgement for his role in investigating the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal, pointed out that any change to the Federal Constitution required a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
He said in a letter to The Malaysian Insider today that the number of seats contested by the various political parties, including the main Muslim parties of Umno and PAS, suggest that it was impossible to amend the constitution as needed for an Islamic state.
Lee based this on the assumption that all non-Muslim MPs would not vote for any amendment to introduce an Islamic theocratic state.
“For example in the Terengganu state assembly some years ago when PAS introduced hudud law, the lone MCA member abstained from voting for it whereas, in contrast, all the Umno members voted for it,” he said.
He pointed out that even if Umno won all 105 parliamentary seats it was contesting in the peninsula and the 15 in Sabah, and if Sarawak’s PBB took 14 seats there, these would still total only 134.
This, he pointed out, remains short of the two-thirds majority ― 148 seats ― needed to amend the constitution.
He added that while it may appear possible if Umno, PAS and PBB formed a coalition, it should be noted that PAS and Umno were competing for many of the same seats.
“My conclusion is that an Islamic theocratic state is impossible in our multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural country, safeguarded by our societal constitution and the Federal Constitution itself.”

MCA faces 'wipeout', veteran industrialist urges members to GET OUT NOW

MCA faces 'wipeout', veteran industrialist urges members to GET OUT NOW
The spate of political gimmicks being unleashed by Chinese-only party MCA to woo back its lost support would not work, said a veteran industrialist.
In an article published by a news portal, Koon Yew Yin , who co-founded public-listed construction giant IJM Corporation among other companies, said the Chinese electorate being targeted by MCA was sophisticated and discerning and would not fall prey to the BN party's campaign.
"What will the Chinese (and other Malaysian) voters be influenced by? Chinese voters want change. They want a party that can stand up to Umno and its almost 60 years of self-serving politics of racism, cronyism and opportunism that have damaged our economy, ruined our educational system and made the future darker for all Malaysians, especially for non-Malays," wrote Koon Yew Yin on Malaysiakini.
Koon, 80, who is also a well-known philanthropist, cited the recent attempt by MCA deputy president and Health minister Liow Tiong Lai to reach out to Chinese voters by writing a book on health tips for the Chinese New Year festive season.
"His backroom boys will probably be flattering the minister about how clever he is in referring to the lucky number of 8888 and its association with wealth and health in reaching out to the Chinese electorate," Koon wrote.
Make a stand for change
The Chinese-only party is currently left with only 15 parliamentary seats nationwide after its disastrous performance in the 2008 general election. In recent times, party leaders have targeted PAS by continuously accusing it of wanting to persecute non-Muslims, a claim strongly denied by the Islamic party.
Most recently, it has invited South Korean star Psy to perform in Penang, hoping that a glitzy entertainment show would change Chinese voters' perception of Barisan Nasional.
But Koon echoed several other political analysts in concluding that MCA would be 'wiped out' at the coming polls.
"According to feedback obtained from the Chinese community and through my participation in political ceramah and interaction with the man in the street, MCA and Gerakan will be wiped out as political parties in the elections," he said, adding that the party was being viewed as "a toady and boot-licking party" to serve UMNO masters.
Saying it was too late for MCA to shift their allegiance, Koon called on MCA's grassroots leaders to help ensure a Pakatan Rakyat victory.
"I and millions of Malaysians urge them to make a stand for change by working to ensure that the BN loses, for the opposition to take over Putrajaya," he added.
Prior to this, former UMNO state assemblyman Mohd Ariff Sabri Aziz also predicted that it is end of the road for MCA.
"If only 30% of the Malays vote for Pakatan and 80% of non-Malays vote the same way [as in 2008], MCA is finished. This is all we need. MCA can lose all its 15 parliamentary seats in the next general election," he recently wrote.

MCA & MIC will not leave BN, but instead, will sink together

I urge you, both MCA and MIC, you should stick to BN.  Sorry, PR will not accept you. So, you stay with BN will die, and you become Independent will also die, anyhow!-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sunday, 08 July 2012 00:26

BN to be DISMANTLED - MCA, MIC to pull out of coalition?

BN to be DISMANTLED - MCA, MIC to pull out of coalition?

Speculation is swirling again that Barisan Nasional component parties, MCA and MIC, are toying with the idea to opt out of the long established national coalition that has governed Malaysia since 1957 due to differing reasons.
Whether they plan to join the Pakatan Rakyat led by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim or choose to stay independent or form a new coalition is not clear yet
Such talk is not new and has blown in and out of the political arena over the past years, largely ignored as few Malaysians believe the pair could ever dare to make a break with the seemingly almighty UMNO - their BN big boss and some say 'big bully'.
Main grouses still the same: 'Telur' the likely 'gift' from voters
But now, pared down to their last card and with the next general election due to be held within the next 10 months, the leaders at both MIC and MCA have no choice but to starkly confront the pro and cons of such a move that will surely bring to an end the decades of easy living, special privileges, cushy income and extraordinary benefits.
But if the bigwigs at the two parties fail to act now while there is still some glimmer of hope, they stand to face political extinction. 'Telur' which means egg and signifying ZERO may well be the number of seats Malaysian voters will give the MIC and MCA at GE-13 - a final, fatal and perhaps well-deserved lesson for not punching their weight and for putting their vested interests ahead of the people's.
The main grouse and grievance of the two parties is the increasing dominance and sway that UMNO holds over them that is causing its members to think of other options and alternatives.
MCA was once a cherished bastion of the Chinese community in the country but has now been witnessing a dwindle in the number of their members, and whilst MIC is, more or less, still intact, despite the emergence of Indian splinter groups representing the community, the days of the two BN parties in the governing coalition may be numbered.
MCA’s woes
According to MCA members, the party’s top honcho, Chua Soi Lek has warned and threatened UMNO hardliners that any attempt to implement “hudud” laws in Malaysia will spell the departure of the Chinese-based party from the national coalition for sure.
Chua did not mince his words and party members are of the view that his push for a better deal for MCA and the Chinese community does not seem to have been met by UMNO especially his call for inclusiveness towards a Satu Malaysia concept.
In venting their anger and frustration, MCA members feel that despite decades of loyal support to BN, the Chinese-based party has still not been given due recognition and respect as an important component of BN.
The mounting frustration among MCA members is evident as calls for greater equality and a more important and prominent role by the party in the politics of Malaysia has so far not materialized.
It is largely these factors that a growing number of party members are beginning to discretely review and rethink the role of their party in the BN coalition.
While not openly voicing their intention to opt out of the BN coalition, the option is starting to look promising though the way and manner the party is to go about leaving BN is still yet to be ascertained.
While not a far-fetched option for the party, much will depend on how the situation in the country begins to shape up for the community in a number of key areas such as the business and economic climate and the role of Chinese education, the latter being a tacky, thorny issue within the BN.
MIC’s role in BN
Disclosure has been made by a senior MIC official that Pakatan’s top brass have been making overtures to woo the Indian party into the fold of the opposition. Of course, this could be doublespeak and it is more likely that the MIC has been approaching Pakatan.
While not overtly, MIC officials, just like the MCA leadership, are up in arms over the dominance of UMNO within the coalition and are unable to understand how their voice has begun to get drowned within the government.
While talks are sporadic and on-going, it is still unclear and uncertain if the MIC will take up the offer from PR. Much will depend on what’s in it for them.
While earlier on, MIC, helmed by G. Palanivel, appeared unlikely to give up their role in the BN, they are however now beginning to warm up to the idea.
This is due largely to the treatment accorded to Bersih leader, S. Ambiga, and a number of other recent developments within the community, prompting the MIC to seriously look into what the terms and conditions PR are offering them.
The fact that that they are willing to engage in secret talks are a positive sign and indicator that they may want to jump ship, although like the MCA, the years of their faithfulness and loyalty might cause them to shy away from actually making such a move.
The emerging scenario: Anything can happen
While both MCA and MIC have been firmly entrenched over the decades within BN, the run-up to the 13th GE has caused significant changes to the political landscape of the country and only in the near future will the picture of these two component parties of BN pulling out and aligning themselves to bolster the opposition be able to be gauged with greater accuracy.
UMNO, meanwhile, are greatly aware and watching with keen interest the shadow play that is taking place, and weighing their options and alternatives as well, as to how to shore up and rebuild their power base to the former era when under the presidency of Mahathir Mohammad.
But the winds of change continue to blow across the length and breadth of Malaysia and Malaysians are carefully following and monitoring closely these changes that are taking place as much is at stake for them.
The reason for Malaysian voters following closely these proceeding is because they are of the belief that, as the situation stands in the nation right now, anything can happen as of now.
