NOV 24 – Datuk Seri Najib Razak can talk a good game and it is refreshing that he speaks of changes for Malaysia.
Of course, change can happen, with time and leaders who have vision, like Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was our prime minister.
For change to happen now, Najib must demonstrate the ability to break from past. You know, the old ways of doing things, announcing without first seeking feedback and thinking that government knows best.
Perhaps the prime minister can tell us before the next general election how many ministers will be dropped, how many young and capable politicians and technocrats will be in his future Cabinet.
His father did it way back when assuming the job. But the joke is that some in Najib's Cabinet were even in Tun Abdul Razak Hussein's administration.
Why change ministers? Because some have a mindset that is not in tune with change or current times. Or for the future, really.
Also, how about stopping the piratisation project called the AES? How about really getting feedback and also awarding projects through open tenders.
Stop this nonsense of cash handouts and shops selling cheap goods. That isn't the way to a high income nation. Our currency has low purchasing power and the subsidies are not directed to the relevant groups. Change that.
What we need is transparency and good governance and a government that governs, not get into business.
That is the change we want. And if Najib's government can do that, it can stay in office. If not, the government needs to change for change to happen.
