Pentecost History and the Need of Drawing Resources from Fresh Fire

At this Pentecost (May 31) season, many Pentecostals mourned the passing away of Rolf McPherson. Pentecost history will remember him as a man of faith in Modern-day Pentecostalism.

The Pentecostals worldwide celebrated Azusa Street Centennial in Los Angeles three years ago. With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit one hundred years ago, many Christians had their passion renewed. They began to read the first Pentecostal experience at the resurrection of the Lord in the second chapter of Acts with a different perspective. Yes, for centuries, the Church had lost track with the power of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the book of Acts.

Thank God that by centennial He has raised and anointed a number of Generals for His Kingdom. It is noteworthy that God began to bring women into public ministry. In fact the first astounding display of Glossalalia (utterances of tongue) was given to a lady. It traced back to 5 years before the Azusa Revival. That is, on 1st January, 1901, when Pastor Charles Parham laid hand and prayed for a lady Bible School student by the name of Agnez Ozman, she spoke in a foreign tongue. For three days consecutively she spoke in Mandarin which she had never learnt. She even could not speak her own mother tongue of English over that period of time.

Prior to the Azusa Revival, women were not allowed to take the forefront ministry. However, when new denominations were formed after the Azusa Revival, God moved greatly among the sisters in Christ who were on fire for souls. Denominations like The Assemblies of God and Foursquare Gospel had even sent out many women missionaries.

Women who made an impact in Pentecost history include Aimee Semple McPherson and Kathryn Kuhlman. Both of them ministered under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. God confirmed His Words with signs and miracles.

I am interested in Church histories. The Bible itself is a History Book. I am also interested in visiting historical sites. Histories will remind us about the faithfulness of God, as well as the successes and failures of God’s saints. Histories served as a mirror for us to reflect so as to make comparisons. No doubt the Holy Spirit by His own sovereignty will move in diverse manners in different ages. Nevertheless, by comparing we allowed ourselves to thirst for more portions of His anointing.

The Holy Spirit today is the same Spirit in the days of Acts. The difference is that we need to move out from history. Do not draw our resources from old fire of the book, but from fresh fire of everyday living in the Lord. So make this Pentecost the most meaningful ever in your Christian walk with God. For many, the Holy Spirit has already come upon us and thus received His power. Yes, we always liked to plead for signs and miracles. But the ultimate purpose of power enduing upon us is for us to become a powerful witness for Christ.

Rolf McPherson, Son of Aimee Semple McPherson, Dies at 96

Friday, 22 May 2009 15:33
Adrienne S. Gaines

Rolf K. McPherson, son of Foursquare Church founder Aimee Semple McPherson and former head of the Pentecostal denomination, died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 96.

One of the few surviving witnesses of the early days of the Pentecostal movement, McPherson was born on March 23, 1913, and traveled with his mother as she led crusades across the U.S. In 1923 she opened 5,300-seat Angelus Temple in Los Angeles and in 1927 formed the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

"They used to bring ambulances and stretchers, and they left empty," McPherson recalled in a 1996 interview with Charisma. "Often Mother would-right in the middle of her message-go down and pray for somebody on a stretcher. They would get up off the stretcher, and the stretcher would be carried off empty."

After his mother's death in 1944, McPherson, then 31, took over the KFSG radio station Aimee Semple McPherson founded in 1924 and became president of the four corporate entities she established: Echo Park Evangelistic Association, the Church of the Foursquare Gospel, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, and L.I.F.E. Bible College, now known as Life Pacific College.

McPherson, who attended L.I.F.E. Bible College and the Southern California Radio Institute, also became pastor of Angelus Temple in 1944.

"I saw him as the kind of the caretaker of his mother's legacy," said Pentecostal historian Vinson Synan, dean emeritus of the Regent University School of Divinity. "He once gave me a kind of tour of Angelus Temple and showed me the artifacts and the dresses [Aimee Semple McPherson wore] and things. And he said that was the greatest revival that [Los Angeles] will ever have. He was kind of a custodian of his mother's legacy."

But Synan said McPherson was an influential Pentecostal leader in his own right. Under McPherson's leadership, the Foursquare denomination expanded into 63 nations and grew from 492 churches in 1944 to more than 12,000 by 1986, according to the International Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements.

Synan noted that while Foursquare president, McPherson led the denomination to join the National Association of Evangelicals and the Pentecostal Fellowship of North America, and he served on several boards until the day he died.

"He had influence that no one could take away from him," Synan said. "He wasn't the founder, but he was the living link with the past until he died. So he had unique position in Pentecostalism generally. ... I can't think of anyone else right at this moment who was active back in the 1920s. So he may be the last of his kind."

McPherson retired from leadership of the denomination and KFSG in May 1988 and retired as pastor of Angelus Temple in 1997.

"Dr. McPherson gave of himself selflessly and faithfully for more than four decades as he carried on the work that his mother had begun," said Jack Hayford, president of the Foursquare Church, which has almost 60,000 churches in 144 nations.

"The blessing that we are currently experiencing is due, in large part, to the work that Dr. McPherson accomplished during his presidency. He laid a foundation that made it possible for the Foursquare Church to move forward around the world and take the Foursquare Gospel to many nations. He will be missed, but the legacy that he left will result in eternal blessedness for millions."

McPherson is survived by his wife, Evangeline Carmichael McPherson; his daughter, Alicia McPherson Santacroce; two granddaughters, Heidi Ledesma and Leslie Young; a grandson, Ronald LaRue; a niece, Victoria Salter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorna De Smith McPherson, and a daughter, Marlene McPherson LaRue.

A memorial service will be held at Angelus Temple, but the date has not been announced.

Pentecostal Church Sues Radical Gay Activist Group

Thursday, 21 May 2009 09:53
Adrienne S. Gaines

May 21, 2009 -- A Michigan church has filed a federal lawsuit against a radical gay activist group that interrupted a Sunday worship service last fall with shouting, same-sex couples kissing and a banner proclaiming "It's OK to be gay."

Mount Hope Church, an Assemblies of God congregation in Lansing, filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan in Grand Rapids on May 15.

The church, which is being represented by the nonprofit Christian legal firm Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), names Bash Back!, a self-described militant gay activist group based in Chicago, its Lansing affiliate and several individuals who planned or participated in the protest.

"This is a group that has threatened violence on its Web site against churches," said Dale Schowengerdt, legal counsel for ADF. "Bash Back! is a national anarchist group with a strong local component in Lansing, and they're threatened for themselves and they certainly see the threat to other churches. It's happened in Boston, it's happened in California, and it's happened in Seattle. This is a group that has strong ambitions to intimidate churches, so this church is saying enough is enough."

On Nov. 9, Bash Back! members dressed in militant garb and staged a protest outside the church to distract security staff, blocking access to the building and parking lot at various times. Meanwhile, 10 protestors who had entered the church masked as congregants stood up in the middle of the service, "declared themselves fags and began screaming loudly," Bash Back! leaders said in a statement posted online after the November incident.

According to the lawsuit, the protestors threw fliers into the congregation, while two women rushed to the front and began kissing near the podium. Other protesters held a banner that read: "It's OK to be gay! Bash Back!" Group members pulled fire alarms as they ran out of the building. Roughly 700 churchgoers were in attendance.

In a statement posted online after the November incident, Bash Back! leaders said Mount Hope was targeted because it is "complicit in the repression of queers" by working to "institutionalize transphobia and homophobia" through "repulsive" ex-gay conferences and hell house plays, "which depict queers, trannies and womyn [sic] who seek abortions as the horrors."

No criminal charges have been filed against the gay activists. Bash Back! also has claimed responsibility for church protests in the Boston and Seattle areas.

In a statement on its Web site, Bash Back! said it is raising funds to fight the lawsuit. "Bash Back! and radical transfolk/queers cannot and will not be intimidated," the group said. "Some of us face life and death on a daily basis. This lawsuit aint [expletive]."
In a statement, ADF said federal law imposes penalties upon anyone who disrupts, by force or threat of force, a church service. The lawsuit asks for an injunction to prevent future protests, as well as statutory and compensatory damages, as well as legal costs.

ADF attorneys expect it to take a year for the suit to go to court.

Meaningful Male Friendship in a Disconnected Age

Wednesday, 20 May 2009 07:37

The epidemic of moral failure among men in the church today is directly tied to our lack of healthy relationships.

Despite the proliferation of iPhones, Blackberries, e-mail and social networking Web sites—not to mention Starbucks locations—many Christian men, if they are honest, will tell you they are lonely. They may Twitter several times a day to co-workers; they may have occasional golf buddies; they may even grab coffee with colleagues from time to time. But so many men who attend church regularly are friendless.
This was made real to me last weekend when I spoke to a group of men at a large charismatic church in Rochester, N.Y. I was talking about three different types of relationships we need: (1) "Pauls," who serve as spiritual fathers; (2) "Barnabases," peer-level encouragers who support and challenge us; and (3) "Timothys," younger men we inspire and mentor.

"Jesus destroyed the macho myth by demonstrating that the strongest masculinity is gentle and approachable."

I asked the guys in Rochester to write down the names of the men in their lives who fall into each category. When the session was over, one man went home to his wife and announced that he couldn't write down one name in any of the categories. He had no meaningful relationships. Other men I spoke to that night admitted that they don't have mentors and have never been transparent with a male friend about personal problems.

Men are disconnected. And we wonder why the American church is dysfunctional?
Secular psychologists can tell you why men struggle to build close relationships with each other. But we rarely address this issue in the church—and as a result many men who love God live in painful isolation. I've identified the three biggest barriers to healthy male bonding:

#1. Macho stereotypes. The macho myth says a real man is a rugged individualist: strongly independent, emotionally detached, covered in body armor without visible weaknesses. The macho myth tells boys they must never cry—even when they are in pain—and that when they become adults they cannot be intimate with their wives or tender with their children. The macho myth says they must maintain dictatorial power and control in relationships, even if abuse is necessary.

Yet when we look at Scripture we see that Jesus Christ radically challenged the macho culture promoted by the religious leaders of His day. The Pharisees looked down on women, stayed aloof from children, and celebrated their own importance while refusing to touch the needy. Jesus, on the flip side, empowered marginalized women, held babies in His arms, touched lepers and told a parable about a father who embraced and kissed his wayward son. Jesus destroyed the macho myth by demonstrating that the strongest masculinity is gentle and approachable.

#2. Fear of homosexuality. In my travels I've noticed that men in other countries feel perfectly free to be affectionate. Men in Africa hold hands; in Latin countries they kiss each other on the neck. Sociologists say male affection was once more common in this country—but it waned around the same time awareness of homosexuality increased. Nowadays, many straight men are afraid to offer a consoling embrace to a friend lest it be viewed as a sexual advance.

That's tragic for many reasons, mostly because all human beings need affection to thrive. There are men today in their 60s and 70s who still crave the affection their emotionally-repressed fathers never gave them. So they live in shells and suffer in silence.

Many guys turn to homosexuality as a substitute for the healthy, non-sexual male affection they should have received. (Then the devil is all too eager to convince them they were "born that way.") The church could offer genuine healing to guys who struggle with sexual identity issues, but it will require us to offer fatherly or brotherly affection without fear.

#3. The competition trap. Let's face it: Guys are so insecure and so work-oriented that we rate each other and ourselves solely on performance. Whether on the fourth-grade playground or in the corporate boardroom, we are so obsessed with the game that we can't let any other guy get ahead. We have to win, so every other male becomes an obstacle to our goal.

Male pride is the single biggest reason we can't get close to our brothers. It's the reason a Christian guy with a porn addiction can't be honest enough to call a friend and share his ugly secret. It's the reason some pastors can't admit their marriages are suffering. It's the reason successful businessmen end up drinking on weekends instead of finding a support group. A big, fat ego stands in the way.

Jesus showed us how to deal with male pride. Right before He went to the cross He gathered His male followers together for the Passover, stripped off His clothes and put on a slave's towel. Then He proceeded to wash His disciples' smelly, dusty feet. When He finished the job He told His men they should treat each other the same way.
The current epidemic of moral failure among men in the church today is directly tied to our lack of healthy, honest relationships. The only way to reverse the trend is to reintroduce men to the servant Savior—who was so humble that he took off His macho armor and became vulnerable.

A Bite of Freedom

Meditation for the day in times of political turmoil.

A Bite of Freedom

Va-ayra
Moses (2)
by Isidore Century

“Let my people go,” said Moses to Pharoah.

“Not until I get my horse back.”

“You have a thousand horses.”

“It’s the principle: Take a horse, you take a palace.”

“I set it free in the mountains of Midian.”

“Then find it and bring it back.”

“Once free, forever free,” Moses told him. “It’s the principle.”

“Power trumps principle everytime,” Pharoah said.

“I have a higher power.
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

“Never heard of him.”

But God had heard enough.
“Give him back his horse,” He whispered to Moses,
“or I’ll have to do something I don’t want to do.”

“It’s the principle.” Moses said shaking his head.

“Sometimes I regret giving man free will,” God told Moses.
“Principles can cause a lot of suffering.”

“But what good is free will if we can’t have principles?”
asked Moses.

“What good is principles without power,” God replied.

“What good is a God without principles?”

“You need both,” God said. “I’ll show you.”

He sent seven plagues down on the Egyptians:
Blood and Frogs and Gnats and Swarms of Wild Beasts,
and Murrain and Boils and Hail.
Yet Pharoah hardened his heart.
He would not let the Israelites go free.

“Three more plagues will do it.” God told Moses.
“The last one is a killer.”

Moses wondered why
the Egyptian people
should suffer for Pharoah’s principles,
but he remained silent.

Failure of Homosexual Agenda

Carrie Prejean

by Steve Oh

In a recent significant development the decades-long held but false claim of a
gay gene has been debunked by the American Psychological Association. You can read a report of this further down the message.

The gay movement is militant and well organised with their own 'pink' industry
that influences government policy all over the world. In a recent Miss USA pageant, Miss California, Carrie Prejean (photo) gave the answer to a question that allegedly had a secret gay agenda, by stating that "marriage is between a man and a woman."

The gay people wanted her stripped of her title in an unrelated incident but the pageant organiser Donald Trump came to her defence, stating that it was the same answer the American President gave. It goes to show how desperate the gay movement is in pushing its militant agenda, which now surely includes the imposition of their ideas on mainstream society.

To Prejean's credit she stuck to her guns and defended her rights to freedom of speech. In another development the BBC in the UK has just appointed a muslim to head its religious programs department.

While Western countries bend backwards to accomodate the religion the persecution of Christians in muslim countries is not abating and even in Malaysia the the Christian use of the age-old word Allah for God is banned.

It pays to be reminded that Jesus warned in the last days there will be persecution and apostasy and a one world leader, and without being presumptuous, for the first time in world history, this appears very likely.

Globalisation, the world wide web, and the eventual metamorphosis of nations states into a One World Society will eventuate in a One World Ideology that brings 'peace.' Anyone whose ideas depart from the universal idea of religion which will be a syncretism of liberal views from the many discrete religions will be seen as a pariah. That will surely include today's sound evangelicals and followers of orthodox and fundamental beliefs that don't subscribe to an ecumenical cause.

APA revises 'gay gene' theory

Peter Lababera

Matt_Barber

Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 5/14/2009 6:30:00 AM
Source: http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=528376

The attempt to prove that homosexuality is determined biologically has been dealt a knockout punch. An American Psychological Association publication includes an admission that there's no homosexual "gene" -- meaning it's not likely that homosexuals are born that way.
For decades, the APA has not considered homosexuality a psychological disorder, while other professionals in the field consider it to be a "gender-identity" problem. But the new statement, which appears in a brochure called "Answers to Your Questions for a Better Understanding of Sexual Orientation & Homosexuality," states the following:
"There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles...."
That contrasts with the APA's statement in 1998: "There is considerable recent evidence to suggest that biology, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors, play a significant role in a person's sexuality."

Peter LaBarbera, who heads Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, believes the more recent statement is an important admission because it undermines a popular theory.

"People need to understand that the 'gay gene' theory has been one of the biggest propaganda boons of the homosexual movement over the last 10 [or] 15 years," he points out. "Studies show that if people think that people are born homosexual they're much less likely to resist the gay agenda."

Matt Barber with Liberty Counsel feels the pronouncement may have something to do with saving face. "Well, I think here the American Psychological Association is finally trying to restore some credibility that they've lost over the years by having become a clearly political organization as opposed to an objective, scientific organization," he states. (Hear audio report)

With the new information from the APA, Barber wonders if the organization will admit that homosexuals who want to change can change.

"It's irrefutable from a medical standpoint that people can leave the homosexual lifestyle," he argues. "Homosexuality is defined by behavior. Untold thousands of people have found freedom from that lifestyle through either reparative therapy or through -- frankly, most effectively -- a relationship with Jesus Christ."

LaBarbera agrees. "Change through Christ is possible -- and it's one of the most heartwarming aspects of the whole gay debate," he shares. "Many men and women have come out of homosexuality, mostly through a relationship with Jesus Christ. The fact that these professional organizations will not study that, will not acknowledge that, shows how 'in the tank' they are for the homosexual movement."

LaBarbera stresses that even though elites will not recognize the change, that does not mean the change does not exist. In fact, both Barber and LaBarbera believe that God changes people through Christ -- regardless of the sin.

40th Anniversary of May 13

It was 40 years passed now! I am referring to the May 13 Racial Riots in Malaysia. In this 40th Anniversary of May 13, it is not a time of celebrations, but instead it is a time of reflection.

Where were you 40 years ago on that day? I was then a Form 1 (I studied Remove Class prior to that) student with Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (National Type Secondary School), Kepong.

I was in the afternoon class. Our class teacher was enthusiast of football. We had our PE classes twice a week at the last period. He used to work “overtime” by making the boys play football till into the dark. And we even played in the rain sometimes. We enjoyed the games.

In the evening on May 13 which was a Tuesday, as usual we played into the night. Soon after I reached home, my family members picked up the news from the street and told us about “Pai Wah” was taking place at Chow Kit Road. They claimed that Malays and Chinese were killing each other there. “Pai Wah” is a Cantonese term for “massacre of Chinese”. Vehicles heading towards Kuala Lumpur town were diverted back. It was chaotic along Kepong Road.

The government imposed a nation-wide curfew that evening with immediate effect. I had never understood what “curfew” was till I was told to confine myself at home. Kepong was only 10 miles away from Kampong Baru at Chow Kit Road where the racial riots broke out. Despite the proximity, Kepong was peaceful. For the next few days when the curfew was lifted for two hours so that people could shop for their groceries. On the streets, as usual, I met the familiar and friendly Kepong Policemen, both Malay and Chinese, who would smile at you.

And I began to wonder why a racial conflict when Malays, Chinese and Indians lived harmoniously all the while? In the schools we of different races studied together, ate together, played together, and even went camping together.

I remembered there were public rallies during the General Election period that year. Those days quite often we would wake up in the mornings and found paintings on Kepong main road asking people to boycott the election.

A Chinese youth from the Labor Party was shot dead for some reason. On the eve of the poll a large funeral procession with a crowd of thousands of people was passing by Kepong Road, but unfortunately mom prevented me from joining the procession. Hostile sentiments among the Chinese towards the authority were high. Somehow I sensed an evil omen was looming large.

That was only an isolated case which had not enough force to trigger a racial riot. What then was the cause? The first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku abdul Rahman, himself has alleged, “You know Harun was one of those – Harun, Mahathir, Ghazali Shafie – who were all working with Razak to oust me, to take over my place…” (“K. Das and Tunku tapes”, edited by Kua Kia Soong, SIRD 2002: 112).

Of course the official version of May 13 puts the blame on the opposition parties. The results of the General Election on May 10 shook the status quo of the Alliance. They had been holding a two third majority control since Independence. The Oppositions celebrated their victory on the nights of May 11 and 12. “The following day, the events that followed would tend to suggest that elements within UMNO (United Malays National Organization) had laid plans to teach a lesson to those who would challenge the predominance of UMNO. (“May 13”, Kua Kia Soong, 2007: 43).

The roots of the racial riots of May 13 will remain a mystery as long as the government is not open to put them into history. There have been books on the incidents banned. Due to ignorance of history by the public, often time May 13 had become a good tool for politicians from the ruling coalition to instill fears to the dissidents. For 40 years the spirit of May 13 had been haunting Malaysians. Take for example, last year on March 8 polling night, streets were deserted when news broke that Barisan Nasional (National Front) had suffered big losses!

I have witnessed how Malaysia fared these 40 years. What had transpired in my country was an utter disappointment. Leaders eroded the Constitution and Judiciary for political and selfish gain. The integrity as well as the dignity of the Royal Police Force has fallen to the deepest valley. There were also opportunists who played the race-cards for their political advancement.

Malaysia had been exemplary in her racial harmony in the eyes of the world until May 13, 1969. In the Biblical context, 40 years speak of one generation. The old generation has faded eventually and the new one has come. Therefore, it is high time for us to be free from the trauma. Malaysians need to come to a national reconciliation. Let us put down that baggage of racial disunity. However, just as what Dr. Kua has mentioned, “There is a need for a Special Commission to unearth the truth of the 1969 racial riots before there can be a genuine national reconciliation.” (“May 13”, 2007: 9). Yes we need to break that curse of May 13! If not, racial discrimination will be an issue which will haunt the country unceasingly.

No one can change history. If Malaysia were to progress, we must face the truth in history so that we will not repeat the folly acts of our ancestors. Now we have a young generation of people who are open to knowledge. Political Writer Dr. Azly Rahman said, “If we encourage our youth to explore the roots of the bloody conflict, we will have a better generation of thinkers. No more “Ketuanan Melayu (Malay Supremacy), China, India,” or whatsoever notions of self-aggrandizement – just the simple act of opening the dialogues of peace.” (http://blog.limkitsiang.com/2007/05/19/was-may-13-naturally-orchestrated/).

Psalm 145 - Prayer for Malaysia

1I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
2Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
3Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable.
4One generation (of Malaysians) shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
5On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
6They (Malaysians) shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
7They (Malaysians) shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
8The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9The Lord is good to all (Malaysians),
and his mercy is over all (Malaysians) that he has made.
10All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your saints (in Malaysia) shall bless you!
11They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
and tell of your power,
12to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations (of Malaysians).

What RM25 million can buy, something that goes hee-haw (UPDATED)

Do I hear a nationwide boycott in the making? Or are the Chinese still going to continue giving money to Vincent Tan and then blame the Malays for what happened in Perak?

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Hee: I didn't use pepper spray

Hee described the sitting as a "nightmare" and claimed that her former DAP colleagues were out to harass her.

She also complained that she was negatively portrayed by press reports.

She said that the note thrown at her was a RM1 note, not a RM50 note as reported in the media.

To set the record straight, she said her former party colleague Thomas Su (DAP-Pasir Pinji) waved a RM50 in front of her but did not hand her the note.

"If I was given RM50, I will keep it and give it to someone in need. But he is a ‘kedekut' (cheapskate). He held on to it and waved it. I know he is 'kedekut'." she said.

On whether she had used the pepper spray against Yew Tian Hoe (DAP-Aulong), Hee said that she pointed her hotel key-chain, not a pepper spray canister.

"It is just a key-chain. 'Hati mereka ada hantu' (They have a guilty conscience)," she said, adding that she is suffering body aches from the scuffles.

However, a clip taken during the assembly yesterday did show Hee pointing what appeared to be a pepper spray canister at Yew (photo above).

The Deputy Speaker of the Perak State Assembly, Hee Yit Fong, was not only the key person in allowing Barisan Nasional to grab power in Perak -- and she has been going around boasting about it; that she was the key person -- but was also the key person in getting V Sivakumar removed from the hall like a sack of potatoes. And she was paid RM25 million to cross over to Barisan Nasional.

Actually, it was DAP’s fault. For some time now she had been grumbling that she is not being properly treated and was not being given due recognition but the party leadership did not do anything about her grouses.

Some say it was an internal struggle within DAP, which is not uncommon for any political party, as many, if not most, of those in politics are in it for personal gain and not to serve the rakyat. DAP is not alien to internal squabbles. No political party is, whether it is Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat. In fact, these internal squabbles are ongoing even as you read this.

The straw that broke the camel’s back, or donkey’s back as many now call Hee, was when everyone was given a Camry except her. They argued that she is not able to drive anyway. So why does she need a car? Her reckoning is that she is a Deputy Speaker. So why can’t they also provide her a driver together with the car if she is not able to drive?

Whatever it may be, the thing that prompted her to abandon the party that no longer appreciated her services was the RM25 million that Vincent Tan of Berjaya paid her. Yes, she was paid a cool RM25 million in cash, more money than any Malaysia Today reader will see it many lifetimes.

Okay, so what are we going to do about it? We lament about her being a traitor. We label her a prostitute. We call her all sorts of names. But have we forgotten that there can only be prostitutes as long as there are clients who pay for the services of prostitutes. And in the case of Hee the client is Vincent Tan.

So punish Hee by all means. Call her all sorts of names if that makes you happy. But don’t forget to also punish the man who turned her into a prostitute, Vincent Tan.

How many of you still eat or shop or gamble at establishments owned by Vincent Tan? Is it not time we organised a nationwide boycott of anything and everything that Vincent Tan has an interest in. You know which establishments I am talking about. And aren’t Chinese the biggest gamblers and is not Vincent Tan getting rich with your hard-earned money which you are willingly and gladly handing over to him?

Stop grumbling. Start doing something. As Lee Iacocca said, “Don’t get mad, get even!” And it is time to stop getting mad and to start getting even.

Boycott, boycott, boycott! This must be the new name of the game. Vincent Tan gave RM25 million of YOUR hard-earned money to Hee. Stop giving him more money, which he will use to buy off more Pakatan Rakyat Members of Parliament and State Assemblypersons.

Perak is only the first. It is not going to be the last. Vincent Tan is talking to more Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers and enticing them with RM10 million to RM25 million each to cross over. By the time the next general election is upon us, maybe only Kelantan will remain a Pakatan Rakyat state. Kedah, Penang and Selangor would probably go the way of Perak in time to come.

That is Najib’s grand design. And Vincent Tan is bankrolling the entire operation. Stop cursing the Malays, in particular the Umno Malays. The Malays would not achieve much without Chinese money. And only the Chinese can punish Chinese such as Vincent Tan because the Chinese are bigger gamblers than the Malays and the Malays do not have that kind of money to burn like the Chinese do.

Do I hear a nationwide boycott in the making? Or are the Chinese still going to continue giving money to Vincent Tan and then blame the Malays for what happened in Perak?

Najib must clear his own mess

by Tunku Aziz

MAY 7 – I never for a moment thought I should live to see the day when a traditional hereditary ruler of a Malay State has taken such a rapid slide in his people’s estimation, approbation and adulation as has the Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak. It took one unfortunate, ill-conceived and ill-considered decision over a petition by the Pakatan Rakyat Mentri Besar Datuk Nizar Jamaluddin, to dissolve the Perak State Assembly that has turned Perak into a politically difficult and dangerous situation.

His Highness Sultan Azlan Shah is no ordinary ruler. As a former Lord President and head of the Malaysian judiciary, he ascended the throne of Perak as someone well-qualified by education and training for what, for all practical purposes, is a largely ceremonial sinecure. Be that as it may, the position carries a heavy constitutional responsibility.

It has become quite apparent that while his legal knowledge may be assumed to be extensive, his training more than adequate, his wisdom in dealing with a delicate and important political matter of public concern, on reflection, has in my humble opinion, turned out to be questionable. A great deficiency in a ruler who showed so much early promise of being a wise, liberal minded and benevolent leader.

When the final chapter of the Perak constitutional fiasco comes to be written, the country, and the world, will be able revisit and understand better the magnitude of the debilitating effects of the royal decision on the Malaysian body politic. Malaysians, in particular, will view with horror the ugly scars left on their nation’s nascent democracy, and they will be constantly reminded how one hasty error of judgement was enough to trigger a political tragedy of the worst imaginable kind. A Greek tragedy pales by comparison.

The saddest part of all is that the resultant unseemly legal wrangling could have been avoided. The fact that the flawed decision was not reversed, within a day or two when it became abundantly clear that the decision not to dissolve the Assembly and call for fresh elections was manifestly unfair and unethical, was nothing if not sheer carelessness, in all the circumstances. I maintain that even now it is not too late to reverse that politically fatal decision and bring to an end this disgraceful episode in the history of participatory representative government in our country.

There is no disgrace or humiliation in coming to terms with one’s honest mistake. No one, even the wisest among us, is infallible. If the Sultan believes, as we know he does passionately, that his royal duty is to serve the public interest, then NOW is the time to give that commitment practical effect.

The Perak fiasco is not about to run out of steam. We must accept that the situation will get worse before it gets better. I saw the images from the State Assembly “sitting” on national television at lunch time today (7 May 2009) with a sense of unbounded revulsion. The scene of warring politicians shouting invective was not a joy to behold.

To use a medical analogy, the Perak affair will be a running sore. Only the Sultan of Perak can provide an effective cure. To ignore what is obviously an untenable constitutional position is an act of grave irresponsibility, and while the Prime Minister thinks it is a great idea for him to give the impression that he is above it all, I should like to remind him that he is not blameless, far from it. It was his active act of muddying the Perak political waters that brought about this current crisis in the first place.

He now has a chance to show that he is not a partisan prime minister, but a national statesman who is prepared to intervene decisively to put matters right in fairness and equity.

Looking back, it was not such a clever personal coup after all. His machination was so abysmally repugnant even judged by the consistently low ethical and moral political standards of UMNO/BN that I find myself wondering whether I could trust him enough to buy my next second-hand car from him; this is the same man trying to persuade us to buy his 1 Malaysia. What a man! (With apologies to G.B.Shaw)

About the writer: One of the prime movers in setting up Transparency International Malaysia, in happier times was regarded by Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi as "one man (who) was able to harness his personal passion and deep commitment to the values of ethics and integrity, give it a larger purpose and meaning, and turn it into a force to transform society for the better." Why then was he left out of the MACC Advisory Group? He is regarded as being too outspoken for comfort and, therefore, difficult to handle.

CD with "Allah" confiscated at KL Airport

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 – A Melanau woman was given the green light by the High Court here today to challenge the Home Ministry’s decision to confiscate eight compact discs (CDs) of Christian religious teachings containing the word “Allah”.

Justice Datuk Alizatul Khair Osman granted leave to Jill Ireland Lawrence Bill, 27, to initiate the judicial review proceedings to seek three reliefs from the court. She wants an order of certiorari to quash the ministry’s decision to confiscate the CDs, an order of mandamus to direct the ministry to return the CDs to her and a declaration that she has the legitimate expectation to exercise her right to possess, use and import publications containing the word “Allah”.

Alizatul made the order in chambers after hearing submissions from her counsel, Annou Xavier and Henry Teh, and senior federal counsel Suzanna Atan, representing the ministry and the government who were named as respondents.

On May 11 last year, the ministry seized the CDs under Section 9 (1) of the Printing Presses And Publications Act 1984 when Jill Ireland, a clerk, disembarked at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang.

The CDs containing titles including “Cara Menggunakan Kunci Kerajaan Allah, Cara Hidup Dalam Kerajaan Allah and Ibadah Yang Benar Dalam Kerajaan Allah” were brought in from Indonesia.

Jill, a Sarawakian native and a Christian, claimed that she used the word “Allah” in her prayers, worship and religious education. She claimed that she used both Bahasa Malaysia and the Bahasa Indonesia ALKITAB which uses the word “Allah”. She claimed that she received a letter dated July 7 last year from the ministry outlining the reasons for the confiscation, including that it was a threat to security, that it used prohibited words and that it was a breach of religious guidelines. – Bernama

The Closing of the Gates of Grace

Tonight I watched as the Holy Spirit gave me a vision.

I saw two massive gate doors – both on the right and the left of the earth. They were made out of gold with precious gems embedded in them. They were positioned over the earth in the spirit realm. On the other side of the gates was heaven. On our side of the gates was the earth suspended in space. Then I saw a mighty angel on each side of the two gates. They were standing as sentries guarding the doorway or portal from the two realms. They each had a large sword in their hands that was on fire and it seemed to spin around perpetually in every direction and it shot these flames out all around them. I was amazed and awed at their glory and size. They seemed as large as the earth below them. The gates were even larger in size than they were! Both the angels and the gates were glowing as bright as the sun, it seemed. On the heavenly side – light was streaming like a river flowing toward the earth. As I looked into the glorious light, I saw the Lord sitting on His throne in great majesty with many crowns on His head. He had an iron/bronze-looking scepter in his right hand and an old-fashioned-looking harvesting sickle in the other.

Suddenly, I heard His voice. It sounded like a roaring ocean of water and wind as He spoke. I have never heard such a sound before. He said,

“The time has come to close the gates of grace upon the earth. The nations have rejected Me and My Father long enough. Lift the coverings of protection off of those nations that have chosen Babylon over my Kingdom. I will no longer protect them from reaping what they have sown.”

Then the two angels on each side of the golden gate leaves began to move slowly to shut the giant doorway/portal. I noticed that this was a slow process, because I saw the seasons change on earth and some years pass before it was fully closed. As it was closing, I was able to look closer at the river of light that was pouring upon the earth. In it was every blessing and healing grace, forgiveness, unconditional agape love, and the constant flow of angels carrying all these wonderful blessings to the earth.
Right before the gates shut, I heard the Voice of the Lord say,

“Come up here, my Bride, and escape the wrath that is about to be poured out upon the earth.”

I heard a nearly deafeningly loud blast of heavenly trumpets from both those angels at the same time, and suddenly, I saw multitudes of souls – millions and millions of them – ascending out of the earth very fast in a flash of light. The river of light coming through the gates met them in the upper atmosphere of the earth and then reversed itself and all the souls and the river of light went back up out of the earth and into the closing gates back into heaven.

Then I saw the gates finish shutting completely – at a much faster rate now after the souls from earth had finished going into heaven. Then, it became so dark that I could no longer see the stars even. There was no more river of light flowing down upon the earth. The earth was covered in what looked like white neon hexagon shapes in a web above the earth (please see my teaching “Visions from the Dallas Revival 1985” on my websight) It rapidly became opaque where I could no longer see the earth underneath. I just saw a brownish looking color –like a stagnant pond - where the oceans and land could be seen only a few moments before. Then, nearly just as fast, the whole earth seemed to be swallowed up in the thickest black darkness I had ever seen. It was like a black hole in the universe. It made the rest of the universe look light in comparison, if I could describe it that way.

I felt so sick and hopeless as I saw this. Then, just like I had heard back in the vision in 1985, I began hearing the screams of millions upon millions of souls that I knew were trapped in that darkness below in the earth. The Holy Spirit then spoke to me and said,

“This is now coming upon the whole earth as a snare and a trap. This is what the nations have chosen. As they have done, so shall it be done to them. As they have cursed, so shall they be cursed. As they have condemned, so shall they be condemned. The time of My wrath shall surely come. The nations shall drink of the wine of the wrath of My cup that I have mixed for them. Woe! Woe! Woe to the earth for the hour of her judgment has surely come! Babylon shall now fall and be consumed by the fire of my wrath.”

Then I realized that these were still events to come in the future. But I also somehow knew that it was imminent. Once again, I saw the doors of the gates of grace still remained partially open. I knew that this was our present time now. I was so relieved to see the river of light flowing into the earth again. But, the doors were closing fast! They weren’t fully opened as they were even a few years ago. I knew that we didn’t have much more time. The Lord spoke again so loudly and powerfully:

“Warn them! Time is very short! You must preach the gospel and work while it is still daylight. The night comes very soon, and no man can then harvest in the time of grace ever again. The doors of grace are beginning to close. REPENT! REPENT! REPENT O Earth before the river of light stops flowing! Then you will face Me, not as Merciful Savior, but as the Judge of all the earth. Who will hear and heed the final call of the silver trumpet’s clarion of Grace, Grace! My Spirit will not strive with sinful man forever. Come to Me now while there is still a little time left. I am coming soon for My overcoming Bride. Keep your lamps burning…Watch and Pray…I AM AT THE DOORS OF GRACE! They are closing quickly….Come into My ark of safety…come into the Bridal chamber and the doors will SHUT…I AM COMING FOR YOU, MY BELOVED!!!”

I pray that we all take heed to God’s prophetic warning and be ready when he appears for His glorious, waiting Bride.

Love in our Messiah,
Maurice Sklar
